CLOUD BASED PREOPERATIVE ASSESSMENT TOOL
Ultramed are a innovative health technology company creating solutions for the healthcare industry. Over the past 3 years we have worked closely together to develop a suite of pre-operative assessment tools to cater for a variety of procedures under the Ultraprep banner.
The online assessment is able to serve up personalised and relevant questions to patients, which avoids potential confusion and the need for unnecessary paperwork.
The NHS’s Information Governance requirements played a large part in how the infrastructure behind the software was set up. We wanted to use a cloud based approach for rapid scalability and high up time, and so we chose Microsoft Azure based on its recent (at the time) approval for use within the NHS, and its ISO 27001 certification. Azure provides all of the security we require, from transparent encryption of databases to automatic backup and secure storage.
The service is as easy to use as pen and paper, but with the advantage of built in explanation of medical terms, instant sharing and ongoing reusability to avoid having to re-fill the same forms. Not only that, but the questionnaire can be completed from the comfort of home without the usual one hour appointment with a nurse. From the hospital’s perspective, the efficiency gains easily cover the cost of the software and free up valuable time for patient care.
The MyPreOp online assessment tool is currently being rolled out in NHS Trusts nationwide. The ultimate ambition is that this software is the number one choice for NHS Trusts and the private sector throughout the UK and beyond.
OUR DEVELOPMENT APPROACH
The goals of the software were to create an easy to use, intuitive user experience that takes the complexity out of the current application form process. It needed to be built with scalability and future proofing in mind right from the start to meet the client’s ambitions for national roll out.
MyPreOp’s back end is written using a full Microsoft stack from SQL Server and Entity Framework through to ASP.net MVC and Web API. This API serves a dynamic front end using Angular, a JavaScript framework designed for data binding and responsive interfaces.
